Our Society
Through meetings, demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and one-on-one
tutoring, the members of the Society learn and pursue techniques of cultivating
beautiful small trees and growing tem in shallow containers.
The Society meets through the year on the first Thursday of the month in Baker Hall's Holly Room of the
Norfolk Botanical Garden. Guest Are always
welcome. Please see our event
calendar for all meeting details.
Meetings revolve around an educational aspect of bonsai design or culture.
Several times a year visiting guest artist are scheduled for lectures,
demonstration and/or workshops.
In cooperation with the Norfolk Botanical Garden our Society sponsors and
maintains a continuous bonsai display at the Norfolk Botanical Garden. The
display is located between Baker Hall and the Japanese Garden.
Each spring the VBS holds an exhibit of members' trees at the Norfolk Botanical
Garden. During the exhibit there are ongoing demonstrations as well as a sales
area and raffle. Knowledgeable artists are available to answer questions and give
advice.
History
Virginia Bonsai Society was incorporated in 1975 as a non-profit organization
dedicated to the promotion, education and enjoyment of the living art of
bonsai.
Future Goals
The Virginia Bonsai Society will continue to promote the living Art of Bonsai & Penjing through its many activities throughout the Hampton Roads area.
In the future, in cooperation with the
Norfolk Botanical Garden we hope to expand and improve the
existing bonsai & Penjing display
hosted at the gardens.
